United Autosports remain in championship contention following Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

Up-state New York, soaring temperatures and the iconic Watkins Glen International circuit welcomed the third round of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup where officials confirmed a record-breaking number of spectators. To celebrate the team’s previous success in the stunning surroundings of Watkins Glen State Park, Daniel Goldburg and Rasmus Lindh we’re invited to Seneca Lodge, a local establishment famous for its rich motorsport heritage and rustic 1940’s atmosphere. Daniel and Rasmus alongside 2025 GTD winners The Heart of Racing participated in a Q&A, autograph session and assisted the lodge’s restaurant team with serving dinner to local residents.

Friday, and the team took to the tarmac – both cars had shown good  pace in practice and qualifying, where Phil Fayer of the #2 LMP2, qualified seventh and Daniel Goldburg of the #22, third in class. Both respectable qualifications in only a fifteen-minute session which formed the wider 54 car line-up across GTP, LMP2, GTD Pro and GTD.

Fayer in the Nuvei backed #2 car, starting from P7 had a lightning start, gaining two positions in the opening laps before the first of many full course yellows, due to on track incidents and to clear debris. This unfortunately was not the only full course yellow, in fact 48 laps, almost a third of the six-hour race were raced under FCY conditions, meaning the United Autosports USA crew had to play the long game with fuel saving and the changing strategy.

In a bizarre multi-car collision in the Esses, under full course yellow conditions, two GTP cars and one of the GTD’s caused significant delays, and the United duo narrowly missed out on being involved, having avoided the contact entirely, which could have resulted in a very different outcome, the race continued. Goldburg, who started the race from P3 remained in the pack throughout, despite receiving a drive through penalty for a pit stop infringement, the pace and the momentum of the #22 with Rasmus Lindh and Paul Di Resta was consistent, with Lindh fighting for the lead of the race. Another drive through penalty set the team back further, due to near contact with another LMP2 going into turn one.

After Fayer handed over the #2 car following a stellar opening stint, the team asked Hunter McElrea to focus on fuel saving and tyre preservation—an attempt to mirror the strategy that set up their prior victory at Sebring. Unfortunately, the stop start nature of this years Watkins Glen derailed those plans, as a barrage of full-course yellows neutralized any strategic edge.

The hurdles continued when Mikkel Jensen took the wheel. Already battling a caution-heavy race, a drive-through penalty threatened to drop the #2 car a full lap behind. The McLaren Hypercar signee dug deep, ultimately outpacing the race-winning #99 car to finish ninth on the lead lap. To round out the team’s weekend, the #22 car crossed the line in fifth place after 179 laps.

“It was a tough race, we had the pace, but the sequence of full course yellows didn’t work in our favour,” said #22 driver, Paul Di Resta. “The speed was there and if the track was clear, I think we would have been on the podium, but the train of cars and the tow meant we just couldn’t catch the leaders.”

CEO & Team Principal of United Autosports, Richard Dean added:

“We’ve won here twice in the last three years, so our expectations were high. Timing was key in the race, and it didn’t go our way. Having a drive through penalty straight after a safety car, meant we lost momentum and got shuffled to the rear of the pack, but we take away the positives, we had the fastest stint time with the #22 car showing great pace, we had the speed and we’ve taken some valuable points which keeps us in contention for the Championship.”

The IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship continues next week, at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the birthplace of Canadian motorsport for the 2 hour and 40-minute sprint race.
