Racing career
Filipe Albuquerque started go-karting from a young age with his dad and brother, and in 1994 (aged nine) Filipe made his competitive debut at the regional karting championship in Leiria.
In 2005, Filipe signed with Red Bull as a junior driver in the Spanish Formula 3 series. He was named Rookie of the Year in three major championships and in 2006, he won the Red Bull Junior driver of the year award. Following this, Filipe did a number of Formula One test drives for Red Bull and Torro Rosso.
In 2009, Filipe started racing with Audi, lining up numerous times at the Italian GT Championship, International Superstars Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) over the course of eight years. In 2013, Albuquerque and Audi Sport won the 24 Hours of Daytona.
Filipe raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in 2014, driving with Audi Sport in their LMP1 entry. In 2017, Filipe Albuquerque joined forces with United Autosports in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) – a championship they’d contest together for four consecutive years.
In 2019, Filipe started racing in WEC with United as well, alongside Phil Hanson and Paul Di Resta. The trio went on to clinch the WEC championship a year later, including victory at the blue riband event, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, from pole position.
Filipe Albuquerque contested the WEC with United Autosports every year thereafter, until the LMP2 class was retired from the championship at the end of the 2023 season. During that time, Filipe and United Autosports achieved six victories and a further five podiums in the ultra-competitive world championship.
Filipe continues to prove he is one of the very best sportscar drivers in the world.
