POST EDIT: United Autosports USA were promoted to the top step of the Daytona podium following a post race ruling. Read more.
This weekend, United Autosports USA took on the 63rd Rolex 24 at Daytona, securing the team’s first Daytona podium with a second-place finish from pole position for the #22 Oreca 07, while also enduring a heartbreaking DNF for the sister #2 car.
In front of roaring crowds, Daniel Goldburg of the #22 crew led the 12-strong LMP2 pack off the line. Together, Goldburg, Rasmus Lindh, James Allen and Paul Di Resta had a drama-free run into the night, mostly maintaining their position in the top five.
The #22 successfully navigated numerous on-track incidents, 10 Full Course Yellows and hectic restarts before sunrise and fared well compared to the competition, but was set back slightly with contact from behind resulting in a puncture and tail change from the subsequent damage – both of which were remedied with relatively little time lost.
On Sunday morning, with a bank of fresh tyres at the ready for the final stretch, victory looked increasingly possible for the #22 - but a drive through penalty close to the 19 hour mark for a jumped restart slowed the charge, taking away track position and settling the crew around fourth position.
Last minute drama with less than 30 minutes on the clock saw two of the LMP2 class-leaders drop down the rankings due to mechanical issues and a spin. The coveted win came back into focus for the #22 crew, with Paul Di Resta whilst saving fuel, closing in on the leader.
However, a seemingly unjustified second drive through penalty as a result of another car hitting the #22 pit stop sign board, served with 20 minutes to go, sealed the fate of the #22 which – after 765 laps and 38 pit stops - crossed the line on Sunday afternoon to secure United Autosports USA’s first Daytona podium.
For the sister #2 car, which started from third place on the grid courtesy of Nick Boulle, the early stages of the race were full of promise, with Garnet Patterson leading at the three-hour mark and Boulle, Patterson and Oliver Jarvis collectively establishing their place in the top three, with Ben Hanley due to take his first stint later that evening.
Heartbreakingly, in the eighth hour, Boulle was caught up in an unavoidable multi-car incident after a Safety Car restart. Nick was cleared by the medical team while the crew set to work on the car, but the #2 Oreca 07 was forced to retire shortly after due to irreparable left side damage.
The United Autosports USA crew will be back in action for the Sebring 12 Hours on March 15th – but first, the FIA World Endurance Championship team are kicking off their 2025 season with the the Qatar 1812KM in just over one months’ time. Stay up to date on social @unitedautosports.

Daniel Goldburg: “Considering that my last 24-hour races were disasters, this one is very good. Pole position, 12-hour leader points, 2nd place finish, all drivers did their jobs well, crew performed well ... it's a job well done by all. But, I’d be lying if I didn’t say it's tough to be that close to the win and not get it. That's what keeps us coming back though! Great overall start to the season. Bring on Sebring.”
Paul Di Resta: “So close but yet so far away it seems. Second is not a result I like to have, especially after twenty-four hours. Two drive throughs in the final few hours cost us it. But I think the last one [drive through penalty] feels unfair given that somebody drove through my pit box when we were two stations away, hit our pitstop board and we got a penalty for it. Credit to the United Autosports USA team, it’s been an enjoyable week and a half here. I guess we’re going to have to come back and try to do it another time.”
Rasmus Lindh: “Starting off the race, we were very strong … in fact the whole race we were very competitive. I’m very happy with the performance of the team, the crew did an incredible job, and Daniel, Paul and James were amazing throughout the whole 24 hours. I want to thank United Autosports USA and CSCI for this opportunity. Next time, we go for the win!"
James Allen: “Not too sure what to say about that to be honest … a podium is always great but to get a drive through penalty at the end of the race when it looked like we were fighting for the win is painful. I can’t thank everyone at United Autosports enough for the opportunity and for everything they have done for us these last two weeks, over the roar and the Rolex. Thank you also to my teammates Daniel, Paul and Rasmus - they all did a fantastic job throughout the whole event. I am glad to share this podium with them.”

Nick Boulle: “I’m really sad about what happened. I keep replaying it in my head to think if I could have done something differently. In the videos it doesn’t seem like there was a way out. The team gave us a great car and I really believe that between Ben, Olly, Garnet and me we were ready to fight for a win in the United Autosports #2 car. Knowing that makes it that much more painful, but we will bounce back. The 2025 Michelin Endurance Cup season for us is focused on winning races so that’s what we’re going to prepare for and think about now. Only forward.”
Ben Hanley: “A hugely frustrating early end to our race. There was nothing that could’ve been done for Nick to avoid that incident. It was a disappointing end to the two weeks - everyone had been working hard and driving great throughout the Roar and the Rolex. The United Autosports crew gave us a great car to drive but we just weren’t given the chance to see what could have been.”
Oliver Jarvis: “A really disappointing end to our race for the #2 car. Unfortunately, Nick got caught up in somebody else’s accident, and there was absolutely nothing he or anyone else could’ve done to avoid it. In the end, there was too much damage sustained to the car, so we had to retire. Such a shame as we had a fantastic car and a really strong line-up, with the potential to fight for the win - but that’s motorsport, it’s a tough one to swallow. Not the result we were hoping for but the most important thing is that Nick walked away ok - and we’ll look back on this as one of the ‘what if’s’. A big thank you to the team and everyone involved, and a big congratulations to the #22 sister car on their second place.”
Garnet Patterson: “Disappointing end to a great few weeks at Daytona. I’m glad Nick is fine after having nowhere to go to avoid contact on the restart. We were in a great place, leading the race at times, and had great speed while looking after the car. Sometimes you get unlucky, and today was the day! Congratulations to the #22 car on their podium (P2) and a big thanks to the whole team for a massive two weeks. Hopefully, we’ll be back to try again next year!”
MANAGEMENT
Richard Dean: “Second place in the Rolex 24 at Daytona is a huge achievement. I am incredibly proud of the United Autosports USA team and our #22 drivers Daniel, Paul, Rasmus and James. But when you come so close to winning and you believe that victory could have … should have been yours, it’s hard not to feel disappointed, especially when you’ve been awake for 36 hours. For the sister #2 car, it was a terrible way for their race to end. The potential was there but it was wrong place, wrong time. Most importantly, Nick is okay.
“This event has given us a lot to celebrate. Back-to-back Daytona pole positions, our first Daytona podium and a strong start to the IMSA season. But we will be back, we will be even stronger, and we will bring the fight again.”
