- Successful debut in GT Cup for United Autosports and Jim Geddie
- Three second places for the McLaren MP4-12C GT3
- Second in the championship after three rounds
United Autosports scored three second places at the first round of the GT Cup at Donington Park this weekend (26-27 April).
Jim Geddie brought the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 car home for the team in podium positions in what is their debut season in the UK based championship.
The weekend consisted of one practice session, in which Jim was P1, one qualifying session on Saturday followed by a race and another qualifying session on Sunday followed by two races. Jim scored P2 in both qualifying sessions, landing him on the front row of the grid for the weekend’s three races.
Jim had a solid race one settling into a rhythm and bringing the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 home in P2. Race two brought some rain as the lights went green which caused Jim to spin on his slick tyres and drop to fifth, but he recovered and fought through the pack to take a second podium for the team. In race three, Jim took the lead from the start, until the second place Ferrari overtook him just before the safety car was deployed. A crash then caused a red flag shortly after the safety car went in signalling the end of the race.
The team now lie second in the championship standings after the first three rounds.
The next round of the GT Cup will be at Brands Hatch on 17-18 May.
Jim Geddie, Driver, United Autosports:
“I’m thrilled with how this weekend has gone. It’s great to be back with United Autosports to hopefully challenge for the GT Cup championship title after winning the European Supercar Challenge in 2013. I was pleased with my pace too, especially after limited pre-season testing. I’m now looking forward to the next round at Brands Hatch”
Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director, United Autosports:
“It has been a great first weekend in the GT Cup with Jim and the McLaren. To have three solid podiums is a great result for Jim and the team. We were unlucky to have been overtaken just before the safety car came out in race three, leaving us with no chance to fight back for the win, but it is promising that we are consistently fighting for the lead. We will be back at Brands Hatch to see if we can score our first win in the GT Cup.”
