- United Autosports have confirmed their entry into the GT Sports Club at Misano, Italy on 3-4 October.
The team will run Phil Burgan in the Audi R8 LMS ultra at the final round of the 2015 season, as a support race to the Blancpain Sprint Series.
The GT Sports Club has been designed by the Stephane Ratel Organisation (SRO) exclusively for gentlemen drivers, with the aim of gathering a group of passionate amateur racing drivers, who can share their interest for beautiful cars and friendly competition. The race weekends consist of a 40-minute free practice session, 20-minute qualifying, a 25-minute qualifying race and a 40-minute race.
Phil will compete in the Iron Cup category as a driver over the age of 60, meaning he will be eligible for the Iron Cup trophy and the overall trophy.
The Leeds-based businessman is currently racing with United Autosports in the GT Cup, lying third in the GTO group standings.
Phil Burgan, Driver, United Autosports:
“I’m excited to be going to Misano. Most of my previous racing history has been in Europe and I enjoy that, going to different places with different cultures. It will be interesting to compete in the GT Sports Club championship as it seems to be quite a level playing field in terms of the balance of performance of the cars and the fact there are no professionals, it’s just gentlemen drivers. I have tested at Misano back in 2006 in a Trofeo Maserati but in those days the track went anti clockwise and now it runs clockwise and they’ve added another loop. Misano has got a very fast back section and it’s an old track with not much run off so you can’t afford to make a mistake there.”
Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director, United Autosports:
“We are looking forward to going to Misano with Phil and branching out into the GT Sports Club. The championship has excluded factory drivers so Phil will be racing against other non-professionals and I believe he’s got a good chance among this level playing field. United have never raced at Misano so it is a new challenge for us and something we are very excited about.”
