Zak Brown and Richard Dean will race two iconic, historic cars at Spa Classic this weekend (12-14th May) marking the first time the friends have raced together since 2019.

Brown and Dean met in 1991 at the Jim Russell Racing School, going on to establish United Autosports in 2009 – originally a small venture for the driver duo to race GTs. Thirteen years down the line, however, with a world championship-winning endurance team to run plus Brown’s duties as McLaren Racing CEO, opportunities for Brown and Dean to race together are few and far between.

In Spa, they will drive two cars from Brown’s personal car collection - the 1974 Ford Cologne Capri RS3100 and the 1989 Jaguar XJR10 - with the historics team at United Autosports on site to make sure all runs smoothly.

The Capri – one of only three works RS3100s built – claimed two victories from two starts in the 1974 Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft (DRM), victory in the European Touring Car Championship at Jarama, and boasts past drivers including F1 champion Niki Lauda. In Spa, the Ford will contest the Heritage Touring Cup with Brown and Dean co-driving during the two 60-minute-long races.

Last summer, Brown won the Monterey Pre-Reunion in the 1989 Jaguar XJR-10 - instantly recognisable with its green, red and white Castrol livery. At Spa-Francorchamps, the iconic IMSA car will take part in two 45-minute-long Group C Races over the weekend, with Brown and Dean sharing driver duties.

TEAM CO-OWNERS

Zak Brown: “Racing is how Richard and I met back in 1991 ... it’s what we love doing so I can’t wait for us to get back on track. We’re running two of my favourite cars at Spa, the Jaguar XJR10 and Ford Capri, and after the success we had at Monterey last year with United Autosports, I think we’ve got a great shot.”

Richard Dean: “It’s a rare weekend where Zak and I are not at previously committed to either an F1 race or sportscar race, so of course we go racing! Spa and the XJR10 should be quite a combination. We have raced the Capri at Spa before with a good deal of success, it’s such a fun car and a real crowd pleaser.”
