Today, in an exciting development for the United Autosports and McLaren Automotive FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) programme, multi-race and championship-winning GT driver Darren Leung is revealed as part of the team’s 2025 WEC LMGT3 attack.
“I am delighted to join United Autosports and McLaren for the 2025 World Endurance Championship season,” says Leung. “Their commitment to their WEC program is truly inspiring, and I’m eager to contribute to the team’s efforts as we take on some of the most iconic circuits in the world.”
In 2024 alone - which marked just his fourth season of competitive racing – the British FIA Bronze-graded driver has added an impressive haul of GT trophies to his collection, taking his first WEC race win at the 6 Hours of Imola, celebrating second place on the podium on his debut at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and securing the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup Bronze Drivers’ title. This followed a breakthrough title-winning campaign in the British GT Championship’s GT3 category the year prior.
“Darren has very quickly established himself as a driver you want on your side,” says Richard Dean, United Autosports CEO. “His rise in motorsport has been pretty amazing to watch over the past four seasons, so we are extremely proud that he is now part of the United Autosports and McLaren Automotive team. Darren believes in this LMGT3 programme with the same passion that we do, and I believe that we have a very exciting future together. Plus, he’s a fellow Yorkshireman which is always a good thing!”
In 2025, 37-year-old Leung will team up with returning United Autosports WEC driver Marino Sato (read more) and one other driver, who will be announced imminently, in the #95 McLaren GT3 EVO.
“As a proud Yorkshireman, racing for a Yorkshire-based team makes this opportunity even more special,” says Leung. “I can’t wait for the chance to see our national flag raised above the top step of the podium!”
The first round of the 2025 WEC season is the Qatar 1812KM on Friday 28th February. Stay tuned for more driver announcements on social media @unitedautosports.
