- United Autosports to enter two cars in 12-hour race in December
- Richard Meins, Jim McGuire and Shaun Lynn to team up once again
- Second car driver line up still to be decided
United Autosports can confirm that they will enter two Ligier JS P3s into the Gulf 12 Hours later this year (13-14 December).
The team will return to Yas Marina for the third time with their Ligier LMP3 cars and the fifth time in their history, the team having previously raced their Audi R8 LMS twice in 2012.
Richard Meins, Jim McGuire and Shaun Lynn will join forces once again in the Gulf Marine liveried Ligier JS P3, while the second car line up is still to be agreed.
The last time the team raced in Abu Dhabi, Jim, Richard and Shaun won their class, while United’s other two entries finished second and third in the Pro Am standings. Shaun’s son, Alex Lynn joined the team for the race in 2016, where he, Shaun and Richard Meins finished second. The 2016 race also marked the first time Jim McGuire joined the team. He has since gone on to enter three seasons of the Michelin Le Mans Cup and the 2018/2019 Asian Le Mans Series with United Autosports.
The Gulf 12 Hours is split into two six-hour races, with four free practice sessions and three qualifying sessions finishing with the race on Saturday.
Richard Meins, driver, United Autosports:
“It’s great to be back with United Autosport for the Gulf 12 Hour race for a third time. I’ve really missed being part of the United family this year so when the opportunity came to partner up with Jim and Shaun again and to race in the December sunshine at Abu Dhabi how could I refuse – The Dream Team is back together and we are hoping for another podium and having a lot of fun in the process.”
Shaun Lynn, driver United Autosports:
“I’m really pleased to be joining United Autosports once again in Abu Dhabi. The Gulf 12 Hours is a great event and I’m hoping we can replicate our win from 2017. I love working with Richard and Jim too. We all get along really well, which makes it a fantastic race weekend.”
Jim McGuire, driver, United Autosports:
“I am exceptionally excited to return to Abu Dhabi for the Gulf 12 Hours with Richard “Macau” Meins, Shaun “Alex’s Dad” Lynn and United Autosports. This is mega event that we unfortunately missed last year after a podium finish in 2017. There’s nothing better than driving for a great team with great friends. This will be a proper “old school” effort!”
Zak Brown, Team Owner and Chairman, United Autosports:
“I’m pleased Jim, Richard and Shaun have agreed to join us again for the Gulf 12 Hours. They had a great result in 2017, winning their class so I’m looking forward to seeing how they get on again.”
Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director, United Autosports:
“The Gulf 12 Hours is a great event and Richard, Jim and Shaun go well there. They have all had a lot more track time in the LMP3 car since they last raced in Abu Dhabi with us in 2017 so fingers crossed they will get a good result again here. The second car is still to be filled but we are looking forward to returning to the event again.”
